A Writer's Short Bio

 

A Little About Me.         

David L. Stanley, B.Sc., M.A.  is an educator, author, voice-over actor, and speaker. His free-lance work has appeared in national magazines on men, depression and suicide, fatherhood, professional bicycle racing, diversity issues, and the Flint Water Crisis.

 Poetry. 

Inspired by the passing of his father in January, 2019, Stanley began to work in sonnets. Now, with over 95 sonnets to his credit, his work is seeing national recognition.

His protest sonnets have been curated by the University of Michigan  Artists Protest collection. 

Stanchion, a new & intriguing literary zine, publishes Stanley's work. 

He has shared his sonnets at the Dad 2.0 Summit as a featured speaker. Dad 2.0 is the world’s largest convention for Dad-bloggers and brands to meet and trade ideas.

 Scholarly.

He is the co-author of a scholarly article, Culturally Congruent Care from the Perspectives of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

Melanoma Advocacy.

Based on his own experiences, detailed in his book, Melanoma, It Started with a Freckle, he also advocates for melanoma awareness on this Facebook page- @MelanomaBook

Audiobook production.

He has narrated over 35 audiobooks.

Community. 

He is the organizer of Flint’s only Pecha-Kucha, creativity from the ground-up, presentation night.

A Jewish man, he taught high school science at Genesee Academy in Swartz Creek, MI; the area’s only Islamic day school from 2015-19. Prior, he spent 12 years teaching at Holly Area Schools where he also served as boys’ soccer coach, ski team coach, and a co-sponsor of the high school’s Gay/Straight Alliance.

He has been featured on NPR’s Here & Now, and regionally, on Michigan Public Radio’s Stateside.

BOOKS. 

His latest book is Rants & Mutters, an essay collection.

He co-authored From Jim Crow to CEO, the Willie Artis Story, available via AUX Media.

His first book, Melanoma, It Started with a Freckle, was released in 2016 on the McGann imprint. It went immediately to #1 in Dermatology & Skin Care.
