The US is One Giant Sh*&$how.

  

I tried to think of something funny or clever or heartwarming to post
this evening and I can’t come up with one damn thing.

Right now, the US is one giant sh*&$how.

·         *30% of America believes that a global pandemic which has killed 180,000 US citizens in 6 months is either a hoax or was purposefully set in motion.

·         *Another unarmed Black man was shot. This time, it was seven bullets in the back. Somehow, he survived. After the fact, people justify this attempted murder because he “had a knife in the car.” News flash: I generally have a knife IN MY DAMN POCKET, Made by Opinel, it has a lovely beechwood handle and opens with a 3 ¼ inch blade. But I’m a white guy and we call that EDC. BTW- I’m 62, and have had that knife in my pocket the two times in the last 30 years I was stopped for traffic issues.

·         *A 17 year old white supremacist with an illegal weapon is driven across state lines by his mommy and he murders two people. 40% of the country feels he is either a hero or justified in his actions. It is breath-taking, the degrees to which people will twist and turn to defend his, and their own, racism.

A civil war looms before us. This threat to our 240 year old experiment in democracy has unveiled the racists, the anti-Semites, the misogynists, the Islamophobes, the haters of LGBTQ+ folks - and I want nothing to do with them. I unfriend and/or block them all.

Maya Angelou said “When someone shows you who they are, the first time, believe them.”

I’m a believer. You’ve made me a believer. You who say, “I’m not a racist but…” and “If those people would just protest peacefully…” and “You can’t get anywhere with violence…” and “but he had a prior conviction…” and “but the police have a tough job to do…” (and yes, they certainly do, but they are not judge, jury, or executioner) and “but the stock market’s doing great…”

You have unmasked yourselves. Black people and other people of color, immigrants, Muslims, women, Jews, LGBTQ+ folks, - these dealers in hate and hypocrisy will come for us all in turn. In March, 2017, I wrote that before this president’s term in office was up, he would declare martial law, install himself as President-for-life, and cancel all elections.

In 67 days, we have an election. I sure hope I’m wrong. Because if I’m not, in 68 days, the round-ups will begin.

And you people who think you’re immune? They’ll figure out a reason to come after you, too.
